Lisa Tobias returns to the show and this time, it's personal. The new series on the USA Network, In Plain Sight gets a recommendation. Meanwhile, John goes nuts over the adorable Amy Adams and her equally adorable Chipmunk friend from Enchanted. The two of them rather enjoyed The Air I Breathe, and they give praise to Sarah Michelle Gellar and Brendan Fraser for their standout performances. The dynamic duo of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp plan to bring Dark Shadows to the big screen, while John tries to be optimistic about a fourth Beverly Hills Cop film. Also, Shirley Manson is set to kick ass and look hot next to Summer Glau in the second season of the Terminator series. By the end of the show, a kind listener gives strong, moral support and John makes a big announcement about his future. The following artists can be heard in this episode:

RJD2, Beastie Boys, The Chipmunks & The Chipettes, Coldplay, Mark Isham, Mat Kearney, Harold Faltermeyer, Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage, Feist, DJ Erb & Ludacris, AC/DC, The Posies, Radiohead, Ambulance LTD, William Shatner & Aimee Mann & Ben Folds and The New Radicals.

Hey nice review! I Really want to get a hold of this movie now! I might not have ever known about it if you hadn\'t brought it up. the only thing is, I think you to parade your dirty laundry at the end there. I think things got taking a little far... Maybe you should have gone on and on so much with the private matter till all was said and done? But other than that 30 minute side track I enjoyed the review and rest of the epi, keep up the positive light!

You haven\'t lost me either. I hope you and Lisa keep doing this show.

John are you going to put up the rest of the Couch Surfing episodes here on Sofadogs since they removed all of the episodes from Geekshow?(Which was a very uncool thing to do)Anyway, good luck from me too. I\\\'ll keep on listening; you haven\\\'t lost me.

As a matter of fact, slowly but surely, every missing episode of Couch Surfing will appear on this feed. Thanks for the continued support and welcome to the original home of Couch Surfing! :)

LOL - Chris, you had me at \"sand in their vaginas!\"

Hey John,

I still don\'t know what to make of this situation.

I wanted to extend some sympathy to you, as you\'ve obviously put a lot of time and energy into this show and it seems obvious to me that you had to be quite hurt to feel it necessary to leave.

John Pavlich

Thank you, Hayden. Since my IP address has been banned from accessing geekshow.us, this is the only way I can communicate with fans of Couch Surfing.

John Pavlich

Thank you for your input, Tabz, but from the feedback I\'ve been getting from my \"audience\", it\'s easy to see that I am in no danger of alienating the listeners.

Oh hey, this is where it is.

I never had a problem with you.

I thought the whole meeting was kind of ridiculous really. I could understand people\'s complaints as I\'m cursed with an over abundance of empathy- I\'m practically a chick some times-, but frankly I don\'t agree with them as far as Rusty James and some other touchy folks are concerned. I completely people started complainign about behind the scenes stuff that I really have nothign to do with, so, hey, sue me.

I didn\'t contact you after the meeting because Scott said eh wanted to discuss it with you first and it was all on him. So I let it go, then we were eventually informed that thigns had gone down- apparently amiccably- and then there was this and then LoL CHERNOBYL!

Sorry you felt you weren\'t getting anything out of it, sorrier still people have so much sand in their vaginas. With you gone, I\'ll probably be next, cause I\'m not in the least bit interested in sparing Rusty James pretentious feelings.

Also, side note, very important:

Professional =! kind unless you\'re in customer service..... and even then.....

For what it\'s worth, that\'s not specifically what I was referring to by \"high school.\" It was just a general statement about the whole situation in its entirety. I wholeheartedly agree that everyone has a perfect right to express their opinion of the situation if they so choose.

John Pavlich
almost sixteen years ago

All I know is, that meeting was behind my back and deliberately kept from me. Since the end result was a seemingly unanimous decision to demote me as a producer, then it was obviously not a secret surprise party, like, \"We like John, let\'s bake him a cake.\" That\'s the aspect of it that feels like high school to me. I still have yet to hear personally from anybody involved, which has been my issue all along. Private conversation is never a lost option, as far as I\'m concerned. But, the more the lines of communication are severed from me, the more I have to wonder. Methinks they doth protest too much. As I\'ve stated before, I have no beef with anyone. Nothing that can\'t easily be mended, at least in my opinion. But, I can\'t make anyone approach this with civility and rationality if it\'s just not in them. All I can do is continue to make myself available to intelligent, calm discussion. I\'m always around, and I will never turn my back on anyone who has something worthwhile to say, no matter how much they might want to push away from me. :)

Tabz

Calmly and honestly John, I don\'t like when podcasters say they can say \"whatever they want\". Yes, this is your forum to say it, but if you use that freedom to say whatever you want and it hurts or angers other people - then why do it? That\'s what journals and diaries are for.

Give the audience what they need (not what they want) of course, but if your audience is reacting negatively to the content you create (whatever form that content is in) than you need to figure out what\'s going on.

Why not step back, be professional and be kind? My audience is my greatest asset, and I could lose them at any moment - so I\'d rather bite my tongue than lose them.

Tabz
almost sixteen years ago

Oh and \"highschool\" doesn\'t mean secret meetings, where people discuss things.

Highschool means everyone stops talking to you and spreading rumors.

Great many corporations have \"secret\" meetings to decide the fate of other people (yearly reviews, which I just went through).

@Rachel G. - no offense, but it was wrong *in your opinion*

And, seriously, guys? I graduated from high school over 15 years ago ...

Anyway, I just wanted to request that any further comments about this ep of Couch Surfing, or about Couch Surfing in general, be continued over at

so that John can actually have the chance to read them. Thanks muchly!

Hey Guys. I finally got to listern to the podcast. Once again you both play off against one another very well. I hope you continue to work on this project because I think its awesome. I\\\'ll continue to listern because I think your ideas and opinions are interesting and thought provoking. I don\\\'t always agree with what I\\\'m hearing but its good to listern to the guy on the other side of the fence once in awhile, because he might say something worth thinking about. Keep up the good work, look forward to the next episode.

Tabz
almost sixteen years ago

I don\'t think it should be considered \"highschool\" for people to say how they feel and their opinion of John got to tell his.

Perhaps a better solution would be to do it all in private, but that option is long gone.

Hayden Jones
almost sixteen years ago

@Lisa BTW, I think your trailer for your podcast was cute.

Rachel G.

I agree with Jack. It was very wrong of John to do what he did and nothing can change that. But as a GBN cast member and I think the best and most adult thing to do now is move on. Live and let die if you will.

I listened to the episode last night and will just comment on the first part. Lisa is indeed a great co-host and if she and John keep doing Couch Surfing (I’m assuming it’d be on the SofaDogs feed from now on), I’ll keep listening.

I also forgot about The Air I Breathe and added it to my Netflix Queue; thanks for reminding me. :)

Lisa T.

Clearly, we’re losing sight here of the most important issue - and that is how awesome of a co-host I am! Yes, please visit the Sofadogs site and check out at least the first half of the ep (where we talk about the stuff listed in the shownotes above) even if you don’t want to get involved in the drama stuff. I had a lot of fun hanging out with John and recording this ep in person and I really think it shows! And, frankly, I’m feeling gypped that everyone was only focusing on the “other” aspect of the show. See, if more people would focus on how awesome I am, we could probably solve global warming and world hunger…

thegr8merlyn

Lisa I have the explanation as to why your being ignored…

The awesomeness that is you as a cohost cannot be put into words. Also to speak of anything with that much awesome power, would cause our heads to explode and our chests to cave-in…. That is all.. I declare myself the couchsurfing metatron…

thegr8merlyn
almost sixteen years ago

Now for a serious post.. I had completely forgotten about the The Air I Breathe. Thanks for reminding me.. now to just go and get it so I can watch. Also I really did enjoy the discussion (all of it), you and John have really good chemistry for these types of discussions. I was also *pardon the pun* very enchanted with Enchanted (although my fiance makes fun of me for it). There is just something about a real life fairy tale. Also I love James Marsden (he is so great at playing the really corny characters). It was also really nice to see timothy spall in something not harry potter (even though the roles are very similar). I hope there will be more surfing with you two in the future.

Woza, guys. Woza. I never knew all this drama happened in the geekshow ranks, Wowza indeed. I hope GBN doesn’t suffer from all this. That’’s my advice. Don’t let what’s a really good creative endeavor suffer from infighting. I’ve known bands and writing suffer from this kinda crap and it never ends well. I hate seeing really good creative juices dis-flowed for personal BS.

I don’t know both sides, I admit it, nor do I really care, because both sides are probs right and wrong. But please… GBN is a wonderful experiment and I am really proud of everyone involved- John, Scott- you guys have so much creative potential- don’t let crappy drama stop you. If you do break up- please don’t stop being creative. You both have such potential of really great writers. I would hate to see either of you fail. Please, for the sake of your listeners- just keep on keeping on.

Good insight, Jack. I think you are completely right. The thing to remember is that nobody is doing anything to be unfair. Nobody benefits from this issue, and everybody loses. There is no sense looking for blame, or taking sides. When you have this many people together, there are often problems.
